Youth Education What is Unity? Unity is a spiritual movement based on the teachings of Jesus and the healing power of prayer that offers a positive, practical, progressive approach to Christianity. Unity respects and honors all other religions and spiritual paths. Unity encourages every person to realize we are unique expressions of God. Living from that awareness transforms our lives and the world. Unity emphasizes the creative power of thought in our life experience. We refer to this as the Law of Mind Action. When we take personal responsibility to choose life affirming thoughts and words, we experience a more fulfilling and abundant life. Unity emphasizes the importance of applying spiritual principles in our daily lives. Unity teachings continue to evolve by identifying, embracing and applying spiritual insights and the spiritual implications of new discoveries in science and spirituality. In Unity, we feel a sacred responsibility, individually and collectively, to make a positive difference through active service in our communities and in our world. Discover Your Greatness Through Unity Principles 1. There is only one ultimate power in the Universe. That power is God and its nature is absolute, unchanging good...This principle frees us from fear of a God that punishes. It frees us from the fear that there is a Satan who can and will overpower us if we are not constantly vigilant. It frees us from the belief that any other person has authority over our spirit. This principle offers us the freedom to place our trust in a benevolent, loving Universe which has only our good in mind. The personal characteristic of this principle is trust! 2. Human beings were created from absolute good and so our inherent nature is also good. We call the inherent goodness of human beings The Christ...This principle frees us from low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence. It frees us from earlier teachings that told us we were inherently sinful. It frees us to express the Truth of who we are which...like our Creator...is goodness and love. This principle offers us the freedom to trust in ourselves. The personal characteristic of this principle is self-esteem! 3. Our thoughts are our creative power. Whatever we persistently focus our thoughts and feelings upon, manifests in our lives...This principle frees us from the belief that we are victims of life. It frees us from the habit of blaming others and calls us to accept responsibility so that we are empowered to change that which is holding us hostage. This principle offers us the confidence, strength and courage to co-create the life of our dreams. The personal characteristic of this principle is empowerment! 4. Prayer and meditation are essential elements of the spiritual life because they focus our thoughts on our Oneness with God and all of creation...This teaching frees us from feelings of alienation and isolation from God and other people. Prayer and meditation free us from the mental, emotional and physical cravings and addictions that restrict our freedom. By teaching us to take charge of our unruly minds, they restore to us the freedom to choose what and whom we will give our attention to. The personal characteristic of this principle is inner guidance! 5. It is not enough to know the Truth. We must put that Truth into action in our lives. We must live the Truth we know. This principle frees us from inertia and stuck-ness. It frees us from lack of integrity – the pain of a split between what we believe and how we behave. It frees us to be all that we believe. It frees us to act on our beliefs. The personal characteristic of this principle is integrity! STAFF
